Service

Tax returns filed on time, with the bill kept legitimately low.

Corporation tax and personal tax, from basic compliance through to genuine planning — with every payment date flagged to you well before it arrives.

  • Corporation tax returns (CT600)
  • Director and personal self assessment
  • Proactive tax planning, not just filing

Compliance is the floor, not the ceiling

Anybody can put numbers in the right boxes. The value in a tax adviser is in the decisions taken before the year end — how profit is extracted, when capital expenditure falls, whether a structure still fits the business it was set up for. Once the year has closed, most of the opportunity has already gone.

So we do two jobs. We prepare and file the returns accurately and on time, and we come back to you during the year when there is something worth doing.

Corporation tax

  • Corporation tax computation and CT600 preparation
  • Online filing with HMRC in the correct iXBRL format
  • Capital allowances reviewed properly, including full expensing where it applies
  • R&D relief flagged where a claim looks genuinely available
  • Payment dates confirmed in writing in advance

Personal tax

  • Self assessment returns for directors, sole traders and partners
  • Dividend and salary planning for owner-managed companies
  • Rental income, capital gains and pension contributions
  • High Income Child Benefit Charge and other traps checked
  • Payments on account explained before they land

What we will not do

We do not sell aggressive avoidance schemes. Over forty-five years we have watched a great many of them unravel, always at the client’s cost and never at the promoter’s. What we do is make sure every legitimate relief, allowance and structure that applies to you is actually being used — which, in our experience, is where most of the real money is anyway.

If HMRC comes calling

We deal with HMRC on your behalf: enquiries, compliance checks, penalty appeals and time-to-pay arrangements. Having a regulated firm respond on your behalf, promptly and in the right format, changes how these things go.

Who this suits

  • Limited company directors
  • Sole traders and partners
  • Landlords with rental income
  • Anyone with a complicated return
  • Anyone who has had an HMRC letter

Works well with

  • Annual accounts
  • Self assessment
  • Making Tax Digital

Common questions

When is my corporation tax due?

Corporation tax is normally payable nine months and one day after the end of the accounting period, with the CT600 return due twelve months after. Larger companies pay in instalments. We confirm your exact dates in writing.

Should I take salary or dividends?

For most owner-managed companies a small salary plus dividends remains efficient, but the right split depends on your profit, other income, pension plans and the rates in force that year. We run the numbers for your actual situation rather than apply a rule of thumb.

Can you deal with HMRC directly?

Yes. Once you appoint us as agent we can speak to HMRC on your behalf, receive correspondence and handle enquiries. It saves you a great deal of hold music.

What are payments on account?

If your self assessment bill exceeds a certain level, HMRC asks for advance payments towards next year’s tax in January and July. It catches people out badly in their second year of trading. We warn you well in advance so it is budgeted for.

Do you handle capital gains tax?

Yes — on property disposals, share sales and business asset disposals. Property gains have a short reporting and payment window after completion, so speak to us before you sell, not after.
